The deserted medieval village of Maltby is very clear and extensive site on the west side of a stream with typical winding sunken roads and house platforms. The site extended to the north of the road but this has now been ploughed out. This area was mostly destroyed by bulldozing and ploughing to create recent market gardens. The homestead moat is about 110m by 90m. {1}{2} The scheduling includes parts of the remains of the medieval settlement of Maltby, and also probably part of the remains of Tathwell medieval settlement. {7} There is plentiful medieval and post medieval pottery on the surface of the fields. {8} The village with the church was already small in 1334. The poll tax return of 1377 gave at least 80 inhabitants in Maltby and Raithby villages combined. {9}
