Full Description

St Peter's Church has evidence of its earliest phase of construction being around 1200 AD, as represented by the southern doorway. Much of the rest is Decorated in style, but with some Early English and Perpendicular work (1180 AD to c.1520 AD). {1}{2}{3} A watching brief took place in 2000 on a new cable trench in the churchyard. Investigation identified subsoil and topsoil, with no other archaeological remains present. A few finds were retrieved from the topsoil . one sherd of locally made 14th-16th century pottery (Toynton/ Bolingbroke type). Also four fragments of brick or tile and a Masonic button cap dated to the 19th century. {4}{5} A 13th century parish church which has features dating from the late 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th centuries. It was restored in the 19th century.
