Full Description

Medieval site at Skendleby. Finds recovered during casual field walking in this area in 1966 included a medieval green glazed pitcher, a sherd of Shelly ware, mussel shells and bone fragments. Unworked pieces of Spilsby sandstone and chalk rubble were also noted in the same area. {1}{2} The National Mapping Programme plotted a large quantity of earthworks associated with medieval settlement around Skendleby. These appear to be centred on two separate areas, being here at Skendleby Thorpe, and further east around Skendleby centrea (see MLI42058). The earthworks plotted in this area of settlement include an earthwork moat, field boundary, boundary ditches, ridge and furrow, and a mound. {3}
