St Mary's Church, Skegness is mainly Perpendicular in date (1180AD to around 1520AD). {1}{2}{3}
The church stands on the site of an earlier 12th century church (PRN 41678).
There are fragments of late 12th century church within the current church but it is mainly 15th century in date. It is finely proportioned with lofty nave arcades, a clerestorey, a tall west tower, aisles and south porch and a chancel. The parclose and rood screens were restored in the 15th century. There is also an octagonal and carved 15th century arcaded font, 15th century bench ends with poppyheads and elaborately carved chancel stall ends and carved roof bosses to the nave and aisles. There is some old glass in the north aisle, 16th century memorial brasses and a broken stone cross. The church forms a visual group with Maybank, opposite, which is of local interest. {4}
Stained glass in this church, some of which is in situ, dates to 1425 to 1450 AD and to the 15th century. {5}
