Full Description

The large church of St Mary dates back to the 13th century although it was largely rebuilt in the late 17th century. It has an Early English unbuttressed west tower, two chancel doorways and three west bays of six-bay arcades. 14th century additions include the tower arch and other later alterations have been carried out. {1}{2}{3}{4} A watching brief revealed a disturbed subsoil which partly filled a possible grave cut and was overlain by modern topsoil. The only finds retrieved from the investigation were several pottery fragments of eighteenth to twentieth century date and a coffin handle. {5}{6} Late twelfth century parish church, which was heavily restored in the nineteenth century.
