Full Description

PRN 40112 The supposed site of the Abbot’s kitchen, Kirkstead Abbey. Mole hills show a concentration of shells, animal bones etc. There is a sample in the City and County Museum, along with three sherds of 15th-16th century pottery and painted glass fragments. Acc no. 13.77.{1}{2} During a watching brief in 1998, a demolition deposit of fourteenth to seventeenth century pottery and tile, and large stone was recorded, centred on approximately TF1895 6154 and extending for about 30m in an east/west direction. This was thought to indicate the location of a building demolished at about the time of the abbey's dissolution in 1537.{3}{4}
