Full Description

One of two remaining village water pumps in Corby Glen. This one is located on the High Street, with the other located in the Market Place (see MLI34963). {1} The two pumps are identical in design, and whilst this pump is not designated, the pump in the Market Place has been listed. The description for that pump states that they are of cast-iron and date from c.1850. They have square pump casings with cast iron panels and a coved top with a fluted knop. On the front is an iron spigot above which there is a shield-shaped plaque bearing a griffin. The water supply of Corby Glen was improved by W.H. Woodhouse of Irnham Hall, bringing it from a nearby spring to standpipes in the village. {2}{3}
