Full Description

PRN 34258 Cropmarks of a pit alignment visible for about 700m and running north-west to south-east from TF09220914 to TF09990848, seen on aerial photographs of 1949 to 1959. (See PRN34187 for northern-most part of the alignment.) Trial excavations in 1958-59 by K. Fennell of 5 pits to the north of Stamford Road indicated that the pits in this part of the alignment had been cut through the fill of a ditch on the same alignment, at a time when some silting-up had occurred but before the ditch had ceased to be visible. Sherds of pottery identified as 'Iron Age A' were found in the upper layers of the pit and ditch fills. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}{6}{7}{8}{9} Cropmarks of prehistoric enclosures, hut circle, pit, and boundary. {10}
