Excavations were carried out by Mrs M. U. Jones in 1961 in advance of gravel quarrying in order to investigate the features, including a double pit alignment, visible in the area on aerial photography north of Stamford Road. Twenty-five pits of the alignment were excavated as well as a nearby isolated pit containing Anglo-Saxon pottery, house-daub and organic material preserved by waterlogging. {1}{2}
