A Roman road, possibly from Burton Coggles to Stainfield through Irnham Park, is referred to in Thomas Leman's manuscript on Roman roads dating to about 1818.{1}{2} Margary confirmed the east to west route, especially some parts east of Irnham. Leman described the line as 'pointing to the tumulus in Westby Lane' in Burton Coggles, Margary confirmed the existence of a ploughed down barrow at SK 972 271 (see PRN33877). {3}{4} A possible Roman cropmark and earthwork road in Corby Glen and Irnham, recorded by the National Mapping Programme. The road was visible on vertical photographs as cropmarks and also earthworks. The cropmarks varied, sometimes showing as a dark broad band and in other places the two outer ditches flanked the agger. {5}
