Full Description

The parish church of Deeping St James was a conventual church of the small Benedictine Priory here. The tower and spire date from 1717, though the rest dates from Norman to Perpendicular. {1}{2}{3}{4} Former Benedictine Priory church, now parish church. The priory was founded from Thorney Abbey in 1139. The building dates from the 13th century, with additions in the 14th and 15th centuries, and c.1730, 1819, and 1830. It is of ashlar, coursed and squared imestone rubble, with a roof of Collyweston slate.
