Full Description

Scheduled part of the medieval town defences of Stamford, at North Street. {1} Excavations conducted in this area in 1975 revealed no traces of the former defences. Two areas were stripped, and several trial trenches excavated, but the only features identified were a number of 13th century quarries and some post-medieval post-holes. It would seem that, whilst this is the likely projected route of the former town defences, no significant remains of the structure exists in this area. The site was therefore removed from the list of scheduled ancient monuments in 2017. {2}{3}
