Full Description

PRN 30601 This church dates mainly from the 13th century with 15th century additions. {1}{2} It is suggested that this is one of four churches in Stamford mentioned in Domesday Book. None of its current fabric is earlier than 1200. The main body of church is 13th century. A great deal of rebuilding was carried out in the 15th century under the patronage of the Browne family. {3} There are sketches of the doorway and piscina in the Parish File. {4} Stained glass in this church, some of which is in situ, dates to the late 15th century.{5} This church is mainly of 13th century date, with a fine arcade of this date. It also has the unusual feature of Early English blank arcading. The steeple and north chapel were subscribed by William and John Browne, wool merchants. There are also 15th century Browne memorial brasses and a Perpendicular font. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {6} Full, detailed descriptions of the building and its interior, memorials etc. are given in several sources. {7}{8}{10}
