Full Description

THE HAMLET OF PEAKHILL DEVELOPED ALONGSIDE GOLDYKE AND BY 1396 HAD ITS OWN CHAPEL. AT TF 2640 1586 WAS A SCATTER OF POT, BONE AND RUBBLE WITHIN A DARK SOIL STAIN ON SILT MOUND ABUTTING A BARRIER BANK. LATE AND POST MEDIEVAL POTTERY WAS FOUND AND THE MATERIAL APPEARS TO CONTINUE INTO BELLESMERE FARM.{1}, AREA 0.07H, HTM 2.5M During excavations in advance of the A1073 improvement scheme a series of east-west aligned ditches were found, these ditches were probably for drainage, they contained some organic material including wood and medieval pottery {2}{3}
