Full Description

At TF251166 and TF262168 - crop marks north of Cowbit House, Deeping St Nicholas and south of Cowbit. Visited in February 1952. Area of peaty clay soil with raised silt, peaty, and clay patches. No Roman remains. {1}{3}{4}{5} Both indicated areas under crop. No visual evidence.{1} COWBIT BELL TUNNEL, LOOSE GROUP OF ENCLOSURES AND FIELDS ON GRID LAY-OUT, TWO WITH CONCENTRIC INTERNAL ENCLOSURES. THERE ARE ALSO MULTIPLE PARALLEL DITCHES, WHICH MAY BE PREHISTORIC OR RB LINEAR FEATURES, SUCH AS DROVE ROADS, OR THE REMAINS OF MEDIEVAL/POST MEDIEVAL DYKES.
