Full Description

Seen in 1870, when digging foundations for a shop close to the edge of the gravel bank on which Crowland stands, closely packed stakes of sallow, about 6 ft long and from 3-5' in diameter. The stakes were about 6 ft below ground level, and appeared to have been floored with brush-wood upon which was laid gravel, and were overlaid with peat, giving the appearance of a causeway. Enormous quantities of bones, chiefly Bos longifrons, Sus-scrofa and deer and beavers' teeth were found. Also a bird-bone pin and a jet disk, about 1.5 ins in diameter, ornamented with a rude intaglio figure.{1}{2} No further information.{1} FOUND IN TF2310.
