Full Description

PRN 20114 SCATTER OF POTTERY, QUERN FRAGMENTS, TWO TILE (POSSIBLY HYPOCAUST) AND SHELL FROM VAGUE SOILMARK ON MAJOR RODDON. THE FINDS SUGGEST A RICHER THAN AVERAGE SITE, AND FURTHERMORE IT OCCUPIES A PRIME SETTLEMENT POSITION ON THIS HIGH RODDON, PROBABLY THE DRIEST SETTLEMENT LOCATION IN THE AREA DURING THE ROMAN AND SAXON PERIODS. THERE WAS ALSO LIMESTONE RUBBLE FROM A POSSIBLE BUILDING. {1}, HTM 3.5M Evaluation work as part of the Fenland Management Project recovered residual Roman pottery and one sherd of pottery from a possible Roman paleosol.{2}
