Full Description

The 'Maud Foster' signal box at the Horncastle Road level crossing. The crossing was on part of the Great Northern Railway's, East Lincolnshire Railway line, this part of which opened in October 1848. The box lay beside the embankment approach to the bridge over the Maud Foster Drain. It was of two storeys and had a basement, which was entered through a door at the back. The ground floor and the basement were of brick, whilst the top of the box was of timber. The roof was of slate, and a brick chimney was in the south-west corner. The ground floor, level with the track, has a door in the northern end, reached by an outside staircase, and a window in both the southern and eastern walls. The box was extant in 1966, but has since been demolished. {1}{2}
