Full Description
During a programme of trial trenching in May-June 2013, a large infilled ditch was discovered. Aligned approximately northeast-southwest, it measured 6.6m wide and at least 1.2m deep, with a slight step on the northwest side. A single sherd of Late Iron Age/Roman pottery was recovered from the lower fill of the feature, while a further 10 sherds of Roman pottery, mostly greyware, were recovered from the upper fill. Though the purpose of the ditch is unknown, it almost certainly relates to the nearby Roman settlement of Saltersford (MLI33968). {1}{2}
