Description

Four trial trenches were excavated to inform the proposed construction of a large new residential development on land to the south of Grantham. A series of Roman features was encountered, including ditches, pits and a probable demolition spread of limestone rubble. An undated, but probably also Roman, inhumation burial was encountered but left in situ. Finds recovered included Roman pottery, mostly dating to the 2nd century AD, a 1st-2nd century AD bone pin, and an iron 'timber dog' of probable Roman date. {1}{2}
