Summary

A scatter of later Prehistoric worked flints recovered from land to the south of Grantham, on the route of the proposed Grantham Southern Relief Road.

Full Description

A small assemblage of worked flint was recovered from the ploughsoil during the monitoring of geotechnical test pits excavated in September-November 2012. Mesolithic flints found included a core fragment, a broken flake, a utilised flake with secondary working, and a pebble with large primary flakes removed. A Mesolithic or Early Neolithic scraper was also recovered. {1}{2} Five later Prehistoric worked flints were recovered during a programme of systematic fieldwalking of the proposed route of the Grantham Southern Relief Road in February 2013. The assemblage comprised one Neolithic flake, three Neolithic blade flakes and one Mesolithic scraper, which had been broken in antiquity. {3}{4}
