A parish church with architectural features surviving from the 12th, late 13th, 14th and 15th centuries. Alterations from 1490 to 1547, the 18th century and 1873 to 1875, when the chancel was restored by Temple Moore. The church was constructed of ashlar stone and coursed, squared limestone rubble and red brick, and features lead roofs. It has a western tower, clerestoried nave, aisles, chancel, north and south porches. The tower dates to the 1490 to 1547 alterations, and is of ashlar stone, with a moulded plinth, four chamfered string courses, an embattled parapet, and stepped corner buttresses. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {6}
Stained glass in this church, some of which is in situ, dates to the late 14th century. {7}
Fragments of architectural stonework and painted glass (including one piece with a cross design) were found during an excavation on land off Church Road, to the north-east of the church. It is thought that this material may relate to the church, probably to the alterations carried out in the 14th to 16th century. {8}{9}
