Full Description

During a programme of trial trenching In 2015, a group of features of Late Saxon date were discovered on land to the east of Main Street and south of Station Road, Torksey. These comprised pits, ditches, gullies and post holes, and probably represented occupation and small-scale agriculture. Finds recovered included a moderate assemblage of Torksey ware pottery and environmental remains indicative of domestic activity. A deposit of wind-blown sands separated these features from a later phase of activity of probable Late Medieval date (see MLI127764). {1}{2}
