Full Description

Wherry's Mill is a former warehouse, probably used for the storage and drying of grain before shipping. It is four storeys tall, brick built in English Bond, with a low-pitched hipped slate roof. Its long elevations have symmetrical openings, with mostly blank short elevations. Internally, part of the original winch mechanism, once connected to a lucam used to hoist goods through an opening in the west elevation, survives. Alterations to the east (rear) elevation include the blocking of several window openings and the construction of a new external staircase to a widened first floor entry. The date of construction for the building is estimated to be pre-1850, probably in the early 19th century. One of the tie beams in the roof is etched with 'Arabic style' carpenter's marks. {1}
