Full Description

During a programme of archaeological evaluation on land off Church Road, Old Leake, in 2009, two possible pits and two gullies of Saxo-Norman or early Medieval date were encountered between layers of alluvial deposits. Sherds of 13th to 16th century pottery were recovered from the sealing deposit, suggesting the site was abandoned due to flooding in the later Medieval period. It is suggested that these features represent peripheral settlement activity. {1}{2}
