Description
Two trial trenches were excavated to inform a proposed development on land off Church Road, Old Leake. Two possible pits and two gullies of Saxo-Norman or early Medieval date were encountered between layers of alluvial deposits. Sherds of 13th to 16th century pottery were recovered from the sealing deposit. Post-Medieval features associated with the buildings depicted on historic mapping were identified cutting into this deposit, including wall foundations. {1}{2}
