Full Description

A geophysical survey and scheme of trial trenching on land off School Lane revealed a group of Saxo-Norman features on this site. A series of ditches on the same alignment formed a sustained land division, established in the 9th century AD and possibly surviving until the late 11th century. Environmental sampling from excavated ditches and pits indicated domestic and agricultural activity, while the charcoal-rich remains of a possible hearth were also encountered in the backfill of a ditch of 10th-11th century date. {1}{2}{3}{4}
