Full Description
A dense area of rectilinear and sub-rectangular cropmark enclosures on land at Temple Hill, Hough-on-the-Hill, visible on satellite imagery. {1}
Geophysical survey undertaken in 2013 encountered a dense array of ditch- and pit-like anomalies covering a total of 3 ha. corresponding to the cropmark enclosures. The anomalies appeared more densely concentrated in the mid-north of the settlement area, where at least one penannular feature was identified. It is possible that two phases of settlement exist - some of the enclosures to the northwest are on a slightly different alignment to the rest. The rectilinear or sub-rectangular nature of many of the enclosures suggests a possible Iron Age or Romano-British date for the settlement. {2}
