Full Description

Pits, post holes, a beam slot and possible floor surfaces, and a gully of Medieval date were encountered on land to the east of South End, Boston, during trial trenching in November 2015. A number of phases of intercutting pits were encountered, all truncating earlier flood deposits which themselves sealed a pre-13th century occupation layer. Also truncating the flood deposits were a group of post holes and a possible beam slot, with associated possible floor surfaces, which may represent some kind of structure. Further flood deposits sealed the revealed features. 13th to 17th century pottery including both local and imported German wares was recovered from the fills of several features. {1}{2}
