Monument record MLI127186 - Probable Roman Settlement, Great Gonerby
Summary
A probable Roman settlement was identifed in two discrete areas during geophysical survey near Great Gonerby which had not been previously recorded. The area to the west represented by this record (MLI127186) has been interpreted as representing settlement remains, and is believed to be associated with the second area to the east (MLI127187) which appears to be of agricultural nature. No further intrusive works were undertaken on the western possible settlement area.

Full Description
A probable Roman settlement was identifed in two discrete areas during geophysical survey near Great Gonerby which had not been previously recorded in NMP data. The first area to the west (MLI127186) likely represents settlement remains. This area consists of around forty linear features forming at least seven distinct enclosures, two probably trackways, and a curvilinear feature. The area identified in geophysical survey occupies approximately 3ha, and has a clear northeast to southwest orientation. {1}{2}
It is believed to be associated with the second area to the east (MLI127187) which appears to be on the same alignment and is of agricultural nature with excavated finds dating to between the 1st and 2nd century {3}{4}, however no further intrusive works were undertaken on the western possible settlement area.
