Full Description

A series of Iron Age to Romano-British ditches and pits on land at Church Lane, Holton le Clay. Iron Age and Roman pottery and animal bone were recovered from these features. Some animal bone showed tool marks associated with butchery, but also with skinning, suggesting craft industry on the site. One large pit to the east of the site may have been used as a quarry, and fired clay fragments and bloom slag indicative of iron smelting were recovered from nearby features. {1}{2}
