Description

A fluxgate gradiometer survey was conducted on land to the north of Church Lane, Holton le Clay, to inform proposed residential development on the site. A series of possible ditches were encountered to the southwest, along with a cluster of pits or areas of burning. Several linear anomalies appeared to correspond to post-Medieval or modern field boundaries seen on historic mapping. Ridge and furrow was also noted in the northwest corner of the site. {1} A magnetometry survey undertaken on Phase 2 to the north of the survey area encountered the continuation of one of the north-south aligned historic field boundaries (see ELI14106). Subsequent archaeological evaluation (see ELI14107) confirmed the presence of the pit and linear groups and dated them to the late Iron Age to Roman transitional period.
