Full Description

Evidence of mid-late Medieval roadside settlement was identified on land to the west of Boston Road and to the south of Station Road, Sibsey, during geophysical survey in October 2013 and trial trenching in March 2014. Concentrations of linear anomalies and areas of positive magnetic response were identified in the survey adjacent to both roads, and were interpreted as boundary ditches and waste pits. This was confirmed in the subsequent programme of trial trenching. The features encountered alongside Boston Road are understood to reflect the position and alignment of its precursor, Chapel Lane. A small assemblage of Medieval pottery was recovered during excavation. {1}{2}{3}{4}
