Full Description

Twelve sherds of medieval pottery were recovered in 2016, during archaeological monitoring of groundworks for the construction of a new residential property at Sandy Nook, Well Street, Bishop Norton. The assemblage comprised one sherd of East Lincolnshire Reduced Interior Sandy ware, dating to the 13th to mid 14th century, recovered from subsoil deposits, one sherd of 13th to 15th century Potterhanworth ware recorded as unstratified, and ten sherds of North Lincolnshire Shell-tempered ware, dating to the late 12th to mid 15th century, recovered from a single pit of unknown function. A small number of other pits were identified, which may also be of medieval date. {1}{2}
