Full Description

Former vicarage at Hawthorn Park, Spalding. Erected at the sole cost of Miss Mary Ann Johnson, who also paid for the erection of the adjacent school (see MLI126342) and church (see MLI126340), for which this vicarge served. Miss Johnson spent nearly £20,000 on the construction of the buildings, and also left £1000 in her will for the distribution of coal to the poor of the parish. Construction of the vicarage is thought to have been completed in 1875, at the same time as the church, with the first vicar appointed at that time being Rev. Augustus William George Moore. The former vicarage is of two storeys, and is built of red brick with ashlar stone detailing, with gabled roofs of slate. Very large extensions were added to the west of the former viacarage at some point in the late 20th century, when the site was converted to use as a care home. A new vicarage was built to the immediate south of the former structure (at 66a Hawthorn Park) following the conversion of the old structure. {1}{2}
