Full Description

Historic parkland at Highfield House is depicted on the 1st edition 6" and 2nd edition 25" Ordnance Survey County Series maps. The parkland was likely established at the same time that Highfield House was built in the mid 19th century (see MLI89172). A former lodge building to Highfield House lies at the western edge of the former parkland (see MLI126407). The lodge is depicted adjacent to the former main entrance driveway to Highfield House (unlike the present arrangement, where Highfield House is approached from the north-west). {1}{2} Approximately the eastern half of the former parkland was sold and developed for housing between 1956 and 1970. A second house, named Rowan House, was built in part of the remaining gardens to the east of Highfield House at about the same time. The former parkland included a number of greenhouse structures, thought to have been built at the same time as Highfield House. One of these greenhouses was demolished during or shortly after the 1940s, while the other remained until the late 1980s. {3}
