Full Description
A programme of trial trenching was undertaken on land at Walnut Tree Field, Wellingore, in 2011. A series of Romano-British ditches were identified. The first of these was a narrow linear feature in Trench 1 which contained a single Romano-British pottery sherd. Another narrow linear feature was identified in Trench 2, which contained three sherds of later Romano-British pottery. Its profile suggests that it may have been some kind of palisade trench, perhaps to support a timber fence line. A gully terminal was identified in Trench 5, which contained five sherds of Romano-British pottery. This gully may have extended into Trench 4. {1}{2}
