Full Description

Remains of medieval ridge and furrow were identified in this location in July 2020, during magnetometry survey conducted to inform proposed residential development. The remains were identified as a series of parallel linear magnetic anomalies, aligned on an east to west axis. {1} Subsequent trial trenching conducted in January 2021 appeared to confirm the presence of ridge and furrow remains in this location. The trenching identified irregular lines of orange-yellow sand in two of the trenches, that ran in the same east to west axis as the geophysical anomalies previously identified. It was thought possible that these linear features may represent the remains of heavily truncated ridge and furrow. {2}{3}
