The former control tower at RAF North Witham was assessed for listing by Historic England in June 2018. It was decided that the criteria for listing was not met in this instance, as the building is of a standard design used on many Second World War airbases. The building has been significantly altered both internally and externally, to the detriment of its architectural and historical interest. Construction of the former control tower begain in 1942, at the same time as the base, with the base opening in December 1943. The airfield remained in operational use after the war, closing in 1956. The tower was constructed of concrete and brick, although it would formerly have been rendered and painted. The building is square in plan and two storeys in height, with a flat roof. The building was stripped of many of its original internal and external features at the closure of the base and afterwards, including the loss of all its windows. There would also have been a viewing platform on the first floor reached from the control room and an external stair surrounded by metal tube fencing. The concrete platform remains, cantilevered from the front elevation, but the stair and fencing are no longer in situ. The large openings on the first floor would have allowed viewing of aircraft movements on the airfield and there would have been a door from the control room to the balcony in the large opening on the return elevation, alongside another large window. There are smaller openings on the rear and side elevations including a doorway on the rear elevation reached by a short staircase. {1}
