Full Description

A memorial to the crews of two Avro Lancasters stands in this location, on the eastern side of Butt's Bridge. The memorial honours the 6 crew members of Avro Lancaster WF4175 (see MLI125799), and the 4 crew members of Avro Lancaster PB422 (see MLI125800), that died when their aircraft crashed in this area during the Second World War. The memorial takes the form of a small metal plaque on a backboard mounted on the railings of the bridge. The plaque is incised with a quarter view of a Lancaster aircraft at the top and the names of the crew members who died below. The date the memorial was unveiled is not given on the plaque. {1}{2}
