Full Description

An Avro Lancaster Mk I bomber aircraft crashed on the site of the Tattershall and Coningsby Gas Works on the 30th of March 1943. The aircraft was designated WF4175 of 97 Squadron, and was based at RAF Woodhall Spa. The plane had returned from a bombing mission to Berlin, but crashed while circling the nearby airfield. All six of the crew members were killed in the incident. A memorial plaque to the victims of the crash is located on the nearby Butt's Bridge (see MLI125801). {1}{2}
