Full Description

Whilst not included in the detailed programme of historic building recording of the former farm building to the north-east (see PRN 49461), the former cow house at Grimblethorpe Hall Farm was briefly described in July 2016. The building is thought to date to the mid 19th century, and formed the western range of an E-shaped complex of former farm outbuildings, typical of the established 'High Farming' movement, but now largely demolished or replaced by more recent structures. The building is single-storey, built of uncoursed, irregular limestone blocks with some brick dressings, and features a slate roof, hipped at the southern end. The building has been whitewashed on the exterior and now functions as a stable, although was thought to have originally provided shelter for cattle. The north wall of the structure is of modern breeze-block construction, suggesting it has been shortened here. {1}{2}
