A scatter of redeposited Roman pottery was recovered in this area in 2008, during trial trenching on a field to the south of Ancaster, known as Cemetery Field. The pottery assemblage was comprised of a variety of different vessel forms, and was largely of greyware fabric, although some samian ware and mortarium fragments were present. Also recovered was a copper alloy as coin of Vespasian (69-79 AD), and a probable Roman copper alloy finger-ring. {1}
