Full Description

Mid 19th century former pigsty at Monksthorpe Baptist Chapel. The building was included in a programme of archaeological recording, conducted in July 2016, to inform the future conservation management of the chapel site. The structure likely dates to the 1860s, when permission was given for the chapel keeper to fence off the western end of the burial ground for use as an orchard and kitchen garden. The small structure was built of red brick and featured a pitched roof, sloping down to the north, and an open pen to the south. The structure had largely collapsed by the time of the survey, and was in a ruinous condition. {1}
