Full Description

The former farm buildings at Poplar Farm were the subject of a programme of historical building recording, conducted in April 2013, prior to their proposed demolition and replacement. The complex is thought to have been constructed as a planned dairy farm of the late 19th century 'High Farming' movement. The main farmhouse had been substantially demolished prior to the survey, and could not be investigated in detail, although some fragments remained, showing that the building had been constructed of red brick, in an L-shaped plan form, and had featured pitched slate roofs. A datestone in the adjacent farm complex gave the date of construction as 1883 (see PRN 56549), which is possibly true of the former farmhouse as well. {1}{2}
