Full Description
Former walled garden at Sudbrooke Park. The structure is first depicted on the 1838 tithe map for Sudbrooke, indicating it was built as part of the development of Sudbrooke Holme House by the Ellison family (see PRN 56489). The garden is still extant, being defined by brick walls for most of its perimeter, and internal wall, and with iron gates in the southern wall of the eastern, larger section. The gardens would have functioned as the main kitchen garden for the former house, and contained up to nine glasshouses and areas in between for outdoor vegetable growing. A number of additional buildings and lean-to's were attached to the garden walls, some of which still survive, having been converted to residential use. {1}
