Full Description

Evidence of probable former settlement activity was identified in this area in November 2014, during magnetometry survey conducted to inform proposed residential development. The activity was recorded as a large concentration of ditch and pit-like magnetic anomalies, concentrated in the north-eastern part of the site. {1} Subsequent trial trenching in this area, conducted in March 2015, confirmed the presence of several ditches and pits in this area, although none of the excavated features appeared to directly correspond with the previous identified geophysical anomalies. No finds were recovered from these features, which remain undated, although their height within the local stratigraphy might suggest that they are of more recent date than the nearby Roman settlement activity (see PRN 49311). {2}{3}
