Full Description

An east to west aligned linear magnetic anomaly was recorded in this location in April 2014, during magnetometer survey of land off Wainfleet Road, Fishtoft. The anomaly was thought to represent the remains of a former field boundary or drainage feature of uncertain date. {1}{2} Subsequent trial trenching, conducted in September 2014, confirmed the presence of the feature, and resolved it as a 2.3m wide ditch, likely functioning as a former field boundary. Several sherds of medieval pottery were recovered from its single fill, including a large piece of Toynton Medieval ware with thumb pressed basal decoration, dating from the late 13th to 15th centuries. {3}{4}
