Full Description

11-13 Market Street was the subject of a programme of building recording, conducted prior to its demolition and rebuilding in April 2004. No.13 appears to have been the earliest structure built on the site; although the exact date of construction is not known, the building was stylistically of the early 19th century. No.11 appeared to be of mid to late 19th century date, built to fill the space between the Market House and No.13. The structures were built of red brick with a pantile roof, and were of two storeys. The structure was of three bays with a central carriageway access to a rear yard, which was roofed over with rooms on the first floor. Various alterations had been made to the structure, including the addition and replacement of several extensions to both 11 and 13. Archaeological monitoring, conducted during the subsequent demolition and rebuilding of the property revealed only layers of late post-medieval made ground, indicating the site had remained undeveloped until the 19th century. {1}{2}
