Protected Status/Designation

Full Description

25800 Cropmarks seen on aerial photographs on the Google maps website. A number of enclosures and circular cropmarks, several of them overlapping each other. The circular cropmarks have been interpreted as ring ditches. They may be evidence of late Iron Age and/or Roman settlement or salt making activity. They could potentially be early Bronze Age barrows but the cropmarks are similar to other groups of cropmarks to the north which, if all interconnected, would form one of the largest Bronze Age cemeteries in Europe and so this latter interpretation is not preferred. {1}{2} There are extinct water courses in the vicinity and the cropmarks are on the high point of a large roddon running approximately north to south. {3}
